Protein. By 2:30/3:00 at work I can hardly keep my eyes open. But instead of having coffee, make sure u arent eating a heavy lunch. have something light, like a salad and when u get back to work/class...have a handful of almonds..or some peanut butter on toast. Drink a lot of water..people dont realize that dehydrations causes lethargy

The problem is you aren't supplying your body with the energy it needs, when it needs it. While exercise is always important, most people who feel this way during the middle of the day feel that way because of poor nutritional habits.

Calories are simply a unit of energy, and your body requires energy all day. If you are about to fall asleep at your desk, that is your signal that you haven't given your body proper nutrition and energy, so your blood sugar levels have gotten low.

The best thing to do to keep your blood sugar levels consistent all day is to eat smaller, more frequent meals/snacks throughout the day.

You should eat something (not junk food, you have to make good choices) every 3 to 3.5 hours. This gives your body a regular supply of calories, and your energy levels will be the same at 10 AM as they are at 2 PM as they are at 7 PM.

Also, this is the best technique if you want to lose body fat by the way. When you eat only a couple of times per day, you generally take in more calories than your body needs at that time, and any excess calories get stored as fat. Eat smaller portions more frequently and you won't be giving your body more calories than it needs at that time, thus no extra to store as fat.

Hope that helps,

Take short naps (20-30 minutes). It will refresh your memory and keep you alert. Naps can be done on coffee breaks or during lunch time. Take a look at the website below and see the benefits of taking short naps.

I seem to have improved on my lethargy by changing my workout routine. Now, I get up at 5:30, go to the gym and work out for 45 minute. I am no longer tired during the day. (I go to bed around 11:00 p.m..)

Water.

When you are low on energy at normal times of the day, your body is telling you that you are getting dehydrated. Drinking water is the best way to get your energy back.

Be prepared though, to keep drinking it until you feel energized again. This can be from one to five or six glasses of water, depending on how dehydrated you are.

Give it a try. You'll be surprised I think at how simple a fix this is!
